According to the latest survey published by Cadem, entitled "Perceptions and Attitudes of Chilean men and women regarding Recycling", 66% of Chileans acknowledge that they do separate waste such as paper, cardboard, glass, aluminum and plastic cans. However, half of the group that declares that they do not do so recognizes that the reason is because there are not enough spaces or places to recycle, which opens the door to great challenges.
However, the study also shows that 40% of Chileans indicate that the recycling of waste It is a subject in which little progress has been made due to the non-existent information and education. It also highlights that eight out of ten Chileans have not heard of the Extended Producer Responsibility Law (REP Law) o Recycling Law, a situation that becomes worrying considering that in September 2023 it will begin to apply throughout the national territory for priority products in the "Packaging and Packaging" category.
In terms of progress and in order to support the massification of this information, it is worth noting that at the beginning of next year the law for the "Tyres" category will also come into effect, so that its manufacturers can take charge of the revaluation of a percentage of the products they sell. Lastly, the REP Law also considers four other products as priorities (batteries, lubricating oils, batteries and electronic items) which remain without an application date.
At Hidronor we will continue to participate in the advancement of this regulation and we strengthen our commitment to help companies achieve the goals that it imposes in terms of industrial waste management and recycling.
