At Hidronor we want to remember the importance of taking care of our environment through measures such as recycling, waste recovery and the implementation of the REP Law in Chile.
This Friday, October 18, World Nature Protection Day is celebrated, a date that reminds us of the importance of preserving our planet for future generations. In Chile and the world, pollution and inadequate waste management continue to be a major challenge to achieving the goal of zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
According to the Ministry of the Environment, in 2022 more than 7.3 million tons of waste were generated in Chile, of which only 12% was recycled. This represents a significant challenge for the country in terms of waste management and environmental protection.
In this context, at Hidronor we actively work to promote and encourage sustainable and responsible practices. With more than 25 years of experience we have managed and recovered more than 500,000 tons of contaminated soil.
On World Nature Protection Day, we also want to highlight measures such as the Extended Producer Responsibility Law (REP), which plays a fundamental role, as it establishes that producers of goods and services are responsible for the management and final disposal of the waste generated by its products, in order to reduce the amount of waste that reaches landfills and increase the recycling rate in Chile. To achieve this, set recycling and reuse goals for different types of waste, such as paper, plastic, glass and electronics. In addition, it forces producers to implement waste management systems and report on their progress.
At Hidronor we contribute to the value chain of the circular economy. We work under the concept “from waste to resource”, using waste to generate new valuable products.
