With the aim of raising awareness among the population about the protection and health of the environment, every year -since 1972- June 5 is commemorated as World Environment Day, decreed by the United Nations Educational Organization, Science and Culture (UNESCO)
According to the agency, each year more than 400 million tons of plastic are produced worldwide and it is estimated that half of this material has a single-use useful life. However, less than 10% is recycled and it is estimated that between 19 and 23 million tons of plastic waste end up each year in lakes, rivers and seas (the equivalent of 2,200 Eiffel Towers together), and Chile does not escape this reality.
According to the Ministry of the Environment (MMA), our country currently generates almost 17 million tons of solid waste per year, one of the highest rates in Latin America.
Given these alarming figures, recent years have been marked by the implementation of multiple initiatives that promote (and require) companies to meet certain goals associated with the circular economy (such as the National Roadmap for the Circular Economy to 2040 and Law of Extended Responsibility of the Producer (REP)), which seek that as a country we achieve better recycling rates and less waste generation, both industrial and household.
Supporting this objective, at Hidronor we have become facilitators of the process of the circular economy value chain in Chile, working under the concept "from waste to resource", thanks to which we direct part of our efforts to use the industrial waste that we collect to generate new valuable products, such as the production of alternative fuel based on waste with calorific value; the generation of clean energy that we inject into the national electricity grid from the biogas generated by the household waste that we receive; we give new life to contaminated land and we clean industrial ponds to be reused; and we have been valuing waste such as oils, batteries, scrap metal, metal parts, batteries, among others, for more than 25 years.
We are committed to providing comprehensive solutions in recovery, recovery, recycling, soil remediation, treatment and final disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste, and we will continue promoting qualified instances and services to contribute to the sustainability of Chile and achieve the recovery of our environment. .
Let's work together for a more sustainable world!
