As of 1963, we commemorate International Soil Conservation Day every year on July 7th, in honor of the American scientist Hugh Hammond Bennett, who started a movement with the purpose of making people become aware of the earth’s importance in the fragile environmental balance.
In this sense, the message of this day is focused to understanding that the soil not only serves as a support for all forms of life, but also guarantees the growth of vegetation, providing the necessary nutrients for all species.
The poor management of these, including deforestation (indiscriminate cutting of acres of forest or large extensions of vegetation), unbalanced industrial activity and misuse of mechanized equipment (machines in poor condition can contaminate with chemicals like oil, gasoline or diesel), lead to the desertification of the soil as a consequence, ecologically degrading their fertility, making them unproductive.
To reduce the environmental impact each person can cause the soil, we would like to share some interesting ideas for you to put into practice, in pusuit of better health and conservation of our environment:
- Do not throw garbage on the ground. Prefer placing it in containers used for this purpose.
- Use organic compost or worm castings to fertilize the soil.
- Use direct sowing.
- If you require the use of chemicals for pest control, go to 100% guaranteed organic products.
- • To the companies: Carry out responsible and efficient management, preventing damage to soils. For this, a correct environmental compliance policy is key. However, in case of unintentionally contaminating the soil, you can reach out to companies like Hidronor, experts in remediation and restoration of contaminated land.
Let's take care of our soils!
