Project that prohibits the commercialization of "single-use plastics" is close to becoming a new regulation

LinkedIn

A new bill, that targets to ban the commercial use of "single-use plastics", is on the verge of becoming law. This same bill was recently approved by the Environmental Commission of the Chamber of Deputies and aims to prohibit the delivery of plastic supplies in all of the food outlets in the country.

This initiative is in addition to the law that eliminated plastic bags from the market, and supports the plan to exert a cultural change in Chile of building a cleaner and more sustainable country together. In detail, this project aims to:

  • Regulate the use of glasses, cups, bowls, cutlery (fork, spoon, knife), chopsticks, wells, mixers, light bulbs, plates, boxes, goblets, prepared food containers, trays, sachets, place holders, and non-bottle caps , as long as they are not reusable.
  • If there is food consumption within the establishment, only reusable products may be used.
  • Supermarkets, convenience stores and warehouses must offer returnable beverage options and they will be required to accept the beverage container from the consumer.
  • As for disposable bottles, they will be required to include a percentage of the plastic collected and recycled in Chile.

At Hidronor we support this type of initiative and promote the transition towards a circular economy. Let's build a more sustainable world together!
