To advance with concrete actions in the implementation of the EPR Law, in 2017 the Consortium of Associated Lubricant Companies (CELA) signed a voluntary Clean Production Agreement (APL) in order to improve the conditions and good productive environmental practices.
Thanks to the progress of this initiative, the Agency of Sustainability and Climate Change (ASCC) recently certified the seven producing and importing companies of the sector constituting CELA in a virtual ceremony which, in a pilot plan, successfully culminated the APL and generated the collection of 258 tons of used lubricating oils (ALU) and the reduction of 517 tons of CO2 equivalent.
According to the results of this APL, 62.7% of the total ALU recovered was used to generate alternative fuel, and 37.3% for its re-refining. In addition, the formalization of generators was promoted to declare the delivery of their used oils, causing an increase from 7% to 72% in the period January-December 2019.
This work allowed CELA companies to become a new benchmark in the sector and with the experience and knowledge obtained, develop a Collective Management System that allows them to respond to the requirements of the EPR law.
