At Hidronor we are committed to the goal set by Chile of advancing towards carbon neutrality by 2050. This is added to other initiatives that aim to build an increasingly sustainable country, such as the development and increasing incorporation of NCRE into the Energy Matrix.

To contribute to this objective, we constantly participate in events and seminars that allow us to gather information about the latest trends and regulations in the industry, as well as to contribute our expert knowledge regarding certain actions and matters.

Along these lines, this Tuesday, March 14, we participated in the Web Seminar on "Waste from the ERNC Industry: Projections and Challenges in its Management" organized by the University of Las Americas and Codexverde. At the event, our Business Developer engineer for the North Zone, Luis Briones, presented interesting data associated with this topic together with other specialists, such as Tomás Saieg, head of the Office of Legislative Implementation and Circular Economy of the Ministry of the Environment; Laurent Vigier, Deputy Manager of Works at Andes Solar; and Benjamín Ramírez, head of the BESS Residential Area of Andes Electronics, a company that creates technology for energy storage.

With more than 190 attendees connected to the activity, our executive argued that companies dedicated to the generation of NCRE must have a "Waste Management Management Plan" in accordance with the specific Supreme Decrees that govern it (DS148) and, To carry it out, they generally go to expert companies in this type of service that have the expert know-how and technical capabilities to carry out these jobs.

"By 2050 there will be 78 million tons of photovoltaic panel waste worldwide and, in the case of Chile, we will have 1 million of this waste that same year, so in response to this problem at Hidronor we have a recycling strategy of photovoltaic panels that responds towards a greater sustainable management”, he highlighted.

As part of the national offer as a company, we have positioned ourselves as a strategic environmental partner for the main clean energy generators, standing out as one of the companies with the greatest service capacity nationwide since we have a wide range of solutions associated with the management, treatment and safe disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous industrial waste, as well as recycling and revaluation of waste, among others.

In this regard, our Business Development engineer stated that the main challenges in waste management for ERNC projects have to do with the provider company having the capacity to provide care in remote locations, difficult to access, with little communication and with changing needs, which implies great challenges.

“This is where we have managed to position ourselves as strategic partners for our clients, fully complying with requirements in different areas of the country. We currently have nationwide coverage from Arica to Punta Arenas, which expands the response capacity we have towards this type of company,” he added.

In order to extract the maximum benefit from each residue -thus contributing to the increase in the circular economy of the country- we also revalue some of them, such as the residual oils generated by these plants to produce alternative fuel that is later used by other industries (such as cement). , and used batteries that are used to manufacture new units or, failing that, their materials are reused as raw material for other processes, reinserting them back into the production and consumption chain.

Finally, the activity culminated with a round of questions asked to the different speakers, who took advantage of this instance to explain in depth the different alternatives and correct processes that are applied to the industry today.

As a company specializing in the management and treatment of hazardous and non-hazardous industrial waste, not only will we continue to incorporate the most advanced technologies in the industry every day for the benefit of our clients, but we will also continue to bet on providing them with the peace of mind they need regarding their waste are being managed and treated responsibly and with a sustainable focus.
