Valuing waste and transforming it into useful products is today one of the challenges that different teams of researchers around the world have posed, for this reason a new process has emerged, defined by experts from the School of Chemical Engineering at Purdue University (Indiana , United States) as a chemical that melts polypropylene into fuel, which happens through a technique called hydrothermal liquefaction, in which polyolefin granules are melted at high temperatures and then dissolved in water. As a by-product, you get gas, oil and solvents, which can be used as fuels.
This advance is in line with the concept of the circular economy, which is presented as a strategy for the use of resources, where the reduction, reuse and recycling of elements prevail and is a fundamental piece for Chile in 2019 to optimize the processes and correct waste management.
