The instruments for environmental management are all those tools or public policies contained by regulations, which motivate actions or behaviors of companies on how to contribute to the protection of the environment, and how to prevent, mitigate or improve environmental problems.
In Chile there are various environmental management instruments, which are contemplated in Law 19,300. Said regulations are: Education and Research, Environmental Impact Assessment System, Environmental Quality Standards, Nature Preservation and Conservation of Environmental and Emission Heritage, Management, Prevention and Decontamination Plans and Citizen Participation.
However, as time passes and the country's progress, the matter has been deepened, incorporating new instruments that, along with addressing issues relevant to environmental management, respond to international demands and commitments.
