Due to the great problems that Chile (and many countries in the world) currently present in terms of soils contaminated by industrial activity and the presence of toxic substances, Hidronor calls for the establishment of public-private alliances to remedy the situation.
In our country, the information available at the level of study and research on Sites with Potential Presence of Contaminants (SPPC) is rare. The latest report (November 2019) highlights that the regions with the most contaminated sites are Antofagasta and Araucanía, followed by Tarapacá and the rivers.
Faced with this scenario, Juan Andrés Salamanca, Hidronor's sales manager, comments that in Chile “the environmental institutionality should strengthen the work in this matter in conjunction with companies to carry out a standard that regulate the SPPC ”. In addition, he adds that to improve the potential damage caused currently it is essential to know the situation in depth, since “this will allow have a preliminary identification assessment of each site and the type of risk that this can generate to the community and the environment, in order to determine an action plan led by the authority, with the support of universities, Corfo, and private companies ”.
To conclude, Salamanca indicates that “Hidronor has understood this problem and we have taken pains to specialize through tools and qualified personnel to return soils to communities remedied or stabilized. It is essential to contribute from this path to the care of the environment in places where for many years environmental damage has not had regulations to date ”.
