The new Recycling Law will bring with it certain challenges for producers, since according to the demands in the valuation of priority products, they will have to rethink the materials and design used in the generation and commercialization of their goods. Certain disposable items or containers could be modified to achieve a suitable ecological balance, which does not affect production and lowers costs.
Consequently, it is that the Ecodesign has been noted in recent times; It is about limiting waste by analyzing the life cycle of the product, allowing to identify improvements and apply new methodologies, reducing the environmental impact, while lowering production costs. Even the Ministry of the Environment prepared a National Ecodesign Plan, the objective of which is to incorporate it both in the public and private sectors. "This discipline is gaining real importance, since the design for sustainability corresponds to a methodology for the strategic management of innovation", affirmed the Undersecretary of the Environment, Jorge Canals.
In addition to this, it should be noted that the type of material used will be essential for the MMA to propose the collection goals implied in the REP Law, since according to the experts, individually categorizing each product for its valuation could decrease by up to 76 % Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions.
