Heavy metals are a group of chemical elements that have a high density. They are generally toxic to humans and among the most susceptible to occur in water we highlight mercury, nickel, copper, lead and chromium.

The increase in the concentration of these compounds in the waters is mainly due to specific pollution of industrial or mining origin. Leachates from landfills or sewage discharges can also be a source of contamination.

However, not all waters contaminated with heavy metals present coloration, and sometimes, if there are, we cannot detect them. For this reason, it is recommended to monitor water for human consumption, analyzing it to verify that the values of heavy metals registered are below the legal limit value.
