During the event, we highlighted the importance of giving them a second use or transforming them into new resources.

On November 19, at Hidronor we were present at the facilities of Essity, one of the main global hygiene and personal care products companies, during the celebration of its “Sustainability Week”.

On this occasion, we offered a presentation entitled “Importance in Waste Management”, aimed at the company's staff, with the aim of raising awareness about the correct management of waste, its dangers and the environmental impacts that come with inadequate disposal.

The presentation was given by Daniela Mancilla, Hidronor Business Executive; and José Antonio Méndez, head of Telephone Sales Managers, who highlighted the relevance of adequate waste treatment in industrial operations.

During the talk, the different types of waste generated by Essity were discussed, with emphasis on hazardous waste, and evaluations were carried out on the treatment processes that the company already implements. In addition, a clear focus was provided on the revaluation and recycling of this waste, highlighting the importance of giving it a second use or transforming it into new resources, which contributes to the reduction of environmental impact.

Hazardous waste in Chile

According to figures from the Registry of Emissions and Transfers of Pollutants (RETC) of the Ministry of the Environment (MMA), almost 650 thousand tons of hazardous waste were generated in Chile in 2021, with industrial waste being the largest source of generation. These wastes, if not managed correctly, can cause serious damage to the environment, such as soil and water pollution, affecting both biodiversity and the communities near the disposal sites.

Challenges in waste management and recovery

The challenge of managing this waste appropriately has become a priority for both companies and environmental authorities. In this context, Essity committed to reducing its ecological footprint and improving its waste management practices, aligning itself with the highest sustainability standards.

Meanwhile, our participation in this event reflected our commitment to responsible waste management and sustainability in the industry, always seeking innovative solutions to mitigate negative effects on the environment.

We can all contribute to the development of solutions that promote the circular economy and the proper management of industrial waste!
