This is an alarming warning from the UN following data provided by the Global E-waste Monitor 2024. At Hidronor we contribute to environmental sustainability and climate change through the recovery of this and other waste.
The United Nations issued a worrying warning: electronic waste is increasing five times faster than its recycling, according to the Global E-waste Monitor 2024 report. In fact, it is estimated that the 62 million tons of electronic waste generated in 2022 would fill 1, 55 million 40-ton trucks.
Throughout the world, the annual generation of this type of waste is increasing by 2.6 million tons per year, with a projection to reach 82 million tons in 2030, which represents an increase of 33% compared to the figure 2022. The study highlights that if countries could raise e-waste collection and recycling rates to 60% by 2030, the benefits would exceed the costs by more than $38 billion.
As a contribution to this serious problem, at Hidronor we contribute to the objectives of the circular economy and a more sustainable operation through waste revaluation, using the industrial waste that we collect to treat it and reintroduce it to the industrial production chain, as is the case of waste such as batteries, scrap metal, metal parts, batteries, among others, which we valorize with this objective.
