Both universities and higher education centers are part of the industries that generate hazardous waste, this through the activities they generate. Some of these are: cells, batteries, fluorescent tubes, tonners, radioactive waste (sources of electronic equipment) and waste from chemical and biological laboratories.
Waste from chemical and biological laboratories are highly corrosive since some come from heavy metals, such as: lead, arsenic and flammable solids, these must comply with proper management after use or during their disposal since they can generate harmful effects for health.
Hazardous waste from Higher Education establishments must be stored in containers labeled according to their content and must be transferred to a temporary storage site authorized by the Health SEREMI.
