The event brought together various companies to debate and find the best solutions for industrial waste.

Hidronor participated in the seminar held by InduAmbiente at the Enjoy Hotel in Viña del Mar. The activity was attended by professionals from the environmental sector along with experts from various industries, who analyzed the challenges and opportunities for the management and valorization of the country's industrial waste. 
 

During the day, Gonzalo Velásquez, Environment Manager of Hidronor, gave a presentation on “Challenges and solutions for industrial waste management”, where he emphasized the growing problem of hazardous waste in Chile. “Annually, more than 18 million tons of waste are generated, of which approximately 600,000 correspond to hazardous waste. Despite this alarming panorama, the recovery of non-hazardous waste reached only 20% in 2022, which underlines the urgency of improving the recovery rates and management of this waste in the country. We currently face this challenge through a comprehensive approach to the recovery and recycling of industrial waste, with a special emphasis on contaminated packaging. Along these lines, we dedicate ourselves, annually, to the recovery of more than 10,000 tons of waste, of which more than 3,000 tons correspond to plastics and packaging."

Velásquez explained that at Hidronor we have achieved efficient recycling that includes the recovery of 108 tons of plastics monthly, as well as the recovery of 24,000 iron drums annually. “Thanks to these efforts, we not only contribute to the circular economy, but we also generate more than 5,000 tons of liquid alternative fuel annually from industrial waste, demonstrating our commitment to sustainability.”
